“Illegal migrants are continuing to attempt to cross the Hungarian border in significant numbers”, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on Hungarian M1 television’s Wednesday evening current affairs program.

György Bakondi added: “Their apprehension requires a major effort on the part of police and the military”. “On Wednesday, for instance, fifty illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the Hungarian border at Röszke and forty at Hóduna”, he stated.

Hungarian police officers once again set off for Serbia and North Macedonia on Wednesday to assist in local border protection efforts. Mr. Bakondi said that as a result of similar operations hundreds of police officers have acquired international experience in recent years and have prevented the illegal entry of thousands of migrants. “This international assistance aimed at having screening and apprehension occur as far away as possible from the EU’s external borders is also a clear Schengen interest”, he pointed out, highlighting the fact that migration has not ceased. “And this fundamentally determines the security and future of the people of Europe”, he added.
