“Migration pressure in the Balkan region is increasing, and illegal immigration aimed at Malta and Italy is also increasing in intensity”, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on Hungarian M1 television’s Monday morning current affairs program.

György Bakondi said the Balkan migration route is now Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia. “Illegal migration is causing visible tensions in the countries affected, and for instance there is currently a political dispute between Bosnia and Croatia with relation to possible ways of curbing migration”, he added.

“Hungary is currently not part of the main migration route, but even so, 6500 people have already attempted to cross the Serbian-Hungarian border illegally this year”, he emphasised. “This indicates that the border fence, the presence of police and military forces, and the application of the legal opportunities created by Hungarian Parliament, are necessary”, Mr. Bakondi highlighted.
