“Illegal migration has increased along the Balkan migration route, and some 20 thousand immigrants have accumulated at the Croatian border”, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said on Hungarian M1 television’s Sunday evening current affairs program.

“If more people start waiting on the Croatian-Bosnian border, it will also require measures on the part of the Hungarian Government”, he added.

“If the construction of the new fence in Slovenia and action by Croatian and Bosnian police is successful, illegal immigrants may search for a new route and could set out towards Hungary, for example”, he pointed out.

As he explained, in the interests of keeping arriving migrants as far away as possible, Hungarian military personnel are on duty along the Serbian and Macedonian borders. “If necessary, and Bosnia-Hercegovina requests Hungary’s assistance, the Government is prepared to also support border protection activities there by sending Hungarian police”, Mr. Bakondi said. “It represents a major security risk that the repatriation of citizens who served as foreign fighters for the Islamic State terrorist organisation has begun in Bosnia-Hercegovina and Kosovo” the Chief Security Advisor stated.
