Interest in the baby expecting support is not abating even during the coronavirus epidemic, the Minister of State for Family and Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Human Capacities said on Inforadio on Tuesday.

Katalin Novák said a decree will be released with a view to facilitating the process of applying for the baby expecting support. The decree will enable pregnant woman to issue an authorisation; as a result, they will not be required to go to the bank in person to deal with the necessary administration.

The Minister of State highlighted that “none of the existing family support measures is in danger”; also during the epidemic, the government will be able to make the necessary funds available, thanks to the performance of the economy and the Hungarian people in the past 10 years.

Family support funds would be the last on the government’s list of items to be taken away, she stated, adding that she sincerely hopes that there will not be a need for this.

Ms. Novák also mentioned that the government is gradually reintroducing the 13th month pension.

Regarding the extension of creche capacities, the Minister of State said the construction works are ongoing, they have not stopped.

Another decree will also be released which will lay down that, even in the event of the closure of creches by municipalities, it will be mandatory to provide duty creche services as many parents are working, and their children must be taken care of, Ms. Novák said.
