“Hungary does not support Brussel’s plans to senselessly restrict the competitiveness of the automotive industry, citing environmental protection”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó at the automotive industry conference organised by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) in Budapest on Wednesday.

Mr. Szijjártó stressed that environmental protection must be enforced in harmony with competitiveness criteria also at EU-level. “A long-term balance can be found between the two without it hindering the European automotive industry, which provides jobs to millions of people, with senseless and forced investments projects”, he said. “Measures such as this would also affect Hungary’s automotive industry, competitiveness and workplaces, and accordingly the Government will only support proportional and well-thought-out measures also within this field”, he added.
