Hungary hasn't so far suitably exploited the opportunities inherent in ecological farming, said the Ministry of Rural Development's Deputy State Secretary Katalin Tóth at an agriculture conference in Gödöllő.
"The reputation of Hungarian wines could increase further through the exploitation of reviving eastern economic relations and with suitable marketing", Deputy State Secretary Katalin Tóth of the Ministry of Rural Development stated in Budafok at the award ceremony of the national "Oenology Profession's Accomplished Student" competition.
At its Wednesday session, the Government decided on the launching of its programme entitled "Land for the Farmers!", within the framework of which 200 thousand hectares of state-owned land may be leased to farmers, the Minister for Rural Development announced in Budapest during the Government Spokesperson's press briefing on Wednesday.
"The Complex Tisza Lake Project, realised with an investment of HUF 6.6 billion, stabilises the water management of the Tisza-Körös Valley, improves the security of the region's agricultural production and protects ecological diversity", announced Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas, after laying the foundation stone at the construction site in Kisköre, Heves County.
In the coming 7 years between 2014 and 2020, Hungary expects to receive a total of some 3.4 billion euros in rural development funding, emphasised Minister of State for Rural Development Zsolt V. Németh at the 4th HUNAGI mobile GIS geoinformation conference in Budapest.
In reaction to a query from Greenpeace Hungary, the Ministry of Rural Development has issuing a statement reinforcing the fact that apiculture is indeed an extremely important economic activity in Hungary, not least because of the significance of honey production within the agricultural economy.

Agriculture Ministers from the countries of the European Union reached an agreement on Tuesday night regarding the reorganisation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), on the basis of which negotiations with the European Parliament may now begin. Minister of State of the Ministry of Rural Development György Czerván told Hungarian news agency MTI: we succeeded in asserting several Hungarian criteria, and Ireland, the current President of the EU, would like to conclude a final agreement on the issue before the end on June.
"The constitutional regulations regard domestic water assets as a natural treasure, and its management is a challenge for us all", said Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas on Tuesday in the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County town of Fegyvernek at the first stop in the series of public debates on the latest National Rural Development Strategy.
"We must find those opportunities, which improve the situation of Hungarian rural areas and move Hungarian agriculture forward", the Ministry of Rural Development's Parliamentary State Secretary Gyula Budai announced at an event held to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the birth of János Mathiász.
