Before the submission deadline of 12:00 on 20 December 2017, seven Hungarian cities – Győr, Szombathely, Veszprém, Székesfehérvár, Gödöllő, Eger and Debrecen – have submitted their bids to become European Capital of Culture in 2023.

The bids submitted to the Ministry of Human Capacities will be evaluated by an international body of twelve independent experts who, at a pre-selection meeting early next year, will announce the candidates to be included in the final round in the second half of 2018.

The winner is expected to be announced at the end of 2018.
